Welcome to this powerful and intense Full Moon at 27 degrees 39 minutes of Scorpio. Depending on your location it is exact over this weekend of the 18th and 19th May. In Australia it is on Sunday 19th. However, it is felt gradually over a few days as the moon waxes and wanes. The effects can be felt over the next few weeks.
Scorpio is a water sign and is known for its penetrating and intense ways of dealing with life. It is highly transformative and evokes feelings of unease if you don’t like being turned upside down and shaken around a little. As with all full moons, it is about the culmination of what has been building in your life and if you know which house in your astrological chart it’s in, it will be far more meaningful and helpful.
Interestingly it coincides with Mars changing signs – from airy Gemini into watery and protective Cancer. This is a mutual reception as Mars is the traditional sign of Scorpio and the Moon is the ruler of Cancer. Making for even stronger emotions around this time. We have four planets in Taurus – Sun, Mercury, Venus and Uranus. Venus is very close to or ‘conjunct’ Uranus. There is a very earthy vibe here with Taurus being the dominant sign engaged. This will work well for the themes of Scorpio and Cancer. Scorpio demands we dig deep into our souls and hearts and shines light where there is dark to reveal and open up some not so comfortable wounds to enable them to heal. Memories here may be quite painful, but always very transformative.
Venus conjunct Uranus in Taurus is at 3 degrees so this is a little like the urge for freedom vs the need for security. This will be active all week and is in a very sensual, earthy placement – Taurus. Aside from that it’s about survival. My body, my resources, my money, my time etc. What do ‘I’ want to create and sustain. So now this becomes about ‘our’ values, as Uranus is dealing with the personal unconscious. In Taurus it will be reflected in ‘what we own.’ The tangible, and so it’s a time to reflect on what our priorities are right now especially under the illumination of a Scorpio Full Moon, as Scorpio is about ‘the other’ and shared resources. Other people’s money, the shared business, belongings, possessions, intimate connections, banks, inheritance etc. So with Venus conjunct Uranus opposite the Moon in Scorpio, it can manifest in this collaboration or exchange between these energies reminding us that it is not always just about us alone. We will have to look at how this operates in a shared union or connection somehow. Scorpio is about merging with the other.
To add to all of this we still have Saturn and Pluto in a challenging square to Eris (asteroid of discord). This only happens about once every 400 years. We are witnessing this in the way of revolutionary uprising around the world right now. During this Full Moon it will magnify this feeling. We just had our Federal Election right on this FM, and only days before Australia lost one of the most influential Prime Ministers of Australian history – Bob Hawke. This was a literal death, but not only that, this loss served to arouse some deep emotional responses in and around how we are currently dealing with the big issues in our country and the world at large. There are some truly revolutionary waves being made in the hope of moving forward and avoiding catastrophe in the areas of climate change and human rights but also the swing of power seems to be having a very polarising effect on the human race which is playing out ever so negatively. A conservative and at times, draconian approach tussling with the Uranian push for change and individuation, which is creating a huge divide amid the populous.
We still have Pluto & Saturn in Capricorn so this is about the status quo, the structure of society and its transformation. Uranus in Taurus is fixed earth but Uranus wants change and to rebel, radically at times. Uranus is the great awakener. Now in Taurus this will be with regard to long tern security. Depending on which house these energies are operating in your personal astrology chart, will determine exactly how this plays out for you. However eventually when they shift from earth to air (Saturn will move into Aquarius March 2020) there will be another lot of change that will move away from the tangible things that have had to change and be reviewed for the next phase of our evolutionary personal growth. Away from the heaviness and permanence into lighter ideals. Probably we’ve been freed up from some of the attachments that we’d held on to and given so much importance to in favour of lifestyle choices that better suit us. Make these changes conscious ones first as otherwise it will happen externally regardless. These will be the changing trends over the next few years as they are the slower moving outer transpersonal planets that make their effects most felt in the greater collective.
So with this juicy Full Moon in Scorpio, we will have secrets revealed perhaps, previously unaware of. Pluto is active here which highlights power, sexuality, crime, research and deep transformation, so hold on to your hats everyone! Make the most of this time as it will always clear away the cobwebs and make way for the fresh new you, after you’ve shed the old skin in preparation for the best way forward. Take care and enjoy!
